The New Whistle Post Winery - Building a Sustainable Winery for the Future

Updated: Dec 8, 2020

The green energy movement has reached the wine industry, leading many vineyards and wineries to turn to more sustainable forms of energy, including solar. Throughout 2020 we have been working on the next phase of Whistle Post, the development of our new on-site Winery and function venue.

Whistle Post Estate has recently installed a solar energy system at our Coonawarra Winery. The solar energy system includes 118 panels and was installed on the building roofs at Whistle Post Winery.

The system reduces carbon dioxide emissions by approximately 14.4tonnes per year, which is equal to taking 3 passenger vehicles off the road or planting 7 Hectares of forest.

Because of the time of use of energy at the winery and cellar door, the new system results in a 98% energy cost offset and an 84% energy consumption offset, which means the property is almost at carbon neutral operation. In addition to the sustainability benefits, the solar installation is expected create annual savings in utility expenses.

At Whistle Post Estate we are always looking for ways to reduce our footprint and produce sustainable wines from our vineyards and winery. Solar Energy is the first step on many as we build for the future.

The expected completion of our new winery is over the summer of 2021. We look forward to welcoming you to our new Winery for wine tasting. Whistle Post Cellar Door Coonawarra is open Friday - Sunday 11am until 6pm.
